Milan enjoys excellent fame throughout Europe also because of its Navigli: the Grande, the Pavese and the Martesana canal, once navigable. Gorla is located in the north-eastern area of Milan, along the avenue of the Villa di Monza (today Viale Monza), built in the eighteenth century. The village of Gorla was born and grew up right on the banks of the Martesana which carried water from the Adda to the Navigli area and on which part of the marble used to build the Milan Cathedral also travelled on special boats. The Martesana canal itself counts the great Leonardo da Vinci among its designers and today represents a great point of attraction.
The route of the Martesana was dotted with suburban patrician villas built in the eighteenth century.
Even today you can feel its echoes, walking along the cool banks of the Martesana or entering the gardens, such as that of Villa Finzi, where the Temple of the Night is located or exploring the less travelled streets until you reach the Monastery of the Poor Clares created by Giovanni Muzio, also author of the Milan Triennale, the Ca' Brutta dell'Arengario and the Catholic University.
Going up the Naviglio Martesana towards the outskirts you will find yourself in an enchanted place: with a large garden and a pink villa used for weddings and celebrations. Here you can also admire the historic stone bridge, the famous Ponte Vecchio. If you cross it you will arrive in Piazza Piccoli Martiri, a square that celebrates a war massacre that affected many children in 1944, when an allied plane accidentally dropped a bomb on the school which was open at the time and full of students who were unable to escape.
Along its route of almost 40 kilometres, the Martesana today represents a fascinating route to be enjoyed on foot, by bicycle or running, passing through the "De Ponti" villas (dating back to the 19th century, and with a spinning mill inside the garden). , “Lecchi” (18th century), “Brasca”, “Pallavicini”, “Petrovic” (19th century). These presences are evidence of an era in which this area was known as the "Milan Riviera", with land cultivated with cereals and mulberry trees.
A few hundred meters away, the neighborhood is also bordered by the Lambro river: in the area there are large green areas, including the Lambro park, the Martesana cycle path and the Crescenzago forest. For lovers of jogging and outdoor physical activity you will be spoiled for choice.

RESTAURANTS
TRATTORIA SAN FILIPPO NERI.
It is not the place where you will eat best, it is not the most beautiful place, it is not the place with the perfect service, but the atmosphere you will find here, 99% of the restaurants in Milan don't have it.

TRATTORIA LA MADONNINA.
Family-run restaurant for a hearty and economical lunch break. The furnishings hark back to the 80s, the welcome is friendly and warm, the menu is a vast series of simple and typical dishes that are more than dignified (if there is any, try the mixed boiled meat with green sauce or the baked shin ) and the prices are negligible
Via Cislaghi 8
ACQUACHETA.
A perfect restaurant for dining with friends, this corner of Tuscany is splendid especially in the summer thanks to its outdoor space full of lights, climbing plants and gravel. Even in winter, however, its warm internal rooms are an ideal refuge for facing the cold by drinking red wine and eating a Florentine or one of the other grilled specialties such as lamb chops or sliced sirloin.
Via Erodoto 2
